Summer holidays in the Dolomites, South Tyrol

The main attraction in San Vigilio is withouth doubt the Nature Reserve Fanes-Sennes-Prags. Since 1982, the official date this site was set up as a Nature Reserve, the place is considered a gem of this area.
Our guests can enjoy on a hiking tour the magnificence of alpine pastures, impressive  massifs, mountain lakes, streams, typical flora and fauna as well as refuges.

Starting from the Pederü guesthouse you can walk to the well-known refuges Fodara Vedla, Senes and Munt de Senes or close to Fanes our guests can reach the Fanes and Lavarella refuges.
On hiking tours you can appreciate the view of the typical animals living in the pastures in summer and with a bit of luck you can see marmots, chamois and alpine ibexes. The really lucky ones may also encounter the very rare golden eagle.

Numerous hiking paths cross the Nature Reserve and lead the hikers safe from one site to another. Climbing enthusiasts can climb up to the 3000 m high peaks of Lavarella, Conturine and Zehner.

In general thanks to the mild climate and the many sunny days, the splendid region around San Vigilio can be explored almost all year round: from spring to late autumn trekking, mountain climbing, mountain biking and horse riding are possible.

Gorgeous Nature Parks in the Dolomites

The village of San Vigilio lies at the feet of the Fanes-Senes-Braies Nature Park that, with a surface of 25.680 hectar, represents the largest natural reserve in South Tyrol and, as part of the Dolomites, belongs to the World Natural Heritage UNESCO.
The Park can be explored by foot or by mountain bike thanks to a wide range of paths. In the reserve you can also see rare animals such as golden eagles, marmots, chamois, ibexes, reptiles and amphibians.
In the middle of the breathtaking mountains of the Park lies the true gem of the Dolomites: the emerald shimmering lake Lago di Braies-Pragser Wildsee.

The Natural Park Puez-Odle at 2.500 m above sea level is an other jewel of the Dolomites. Typical karst forms, majestic cliffs, cracks and sinkhole ponds, green Alpine pastures and woods offer gorgeous natural landscapes to be explored.

On the nearby Plan de Corones / Kronplatz, better known as South Tyrol’s top ski resort, you find a wide range of hiking tours in summer. Guided hiking tours allowing further exploration of our striking landscape are regularly organized in San Vigilio. The various huts and refuges scattered across our mountains are not just popular destinations for a day trip, but also a chance to treat yourself after a long walk: come in and taste typical South Tyrolean specialties served in cosy familiar atmosphere and stunning locations!

Climbing
Breathing in the air of inebriant heights, writing your name proudly in the summit register, letting thoughts run free as the clouds under your feets: all this is possible during your stay in San Vigilio! There are plenty of challenging routes starting right from the village, spectacular high altitude walks and tricky via ferratas ranging from between 2,700 and 3,000 metres high to delight your passion. As safety is always important, it is better to ask about guided tours in the local tourist office or engage an experienced local mountain guide.

Mountain biking
Breathtaking descents, gorgeous views and challenging climbs are waiting for you on one of the best mountain biking tour in Europe: Nature Park Circuit. Other easier and shorter tours are scattered around San Vigilio, whilst more challenging day tours lead into the rocky heights of the Dolomites in Fanes-Sennes-Prags and Puez-Geisler Nature Parks. Zipline
Are you brave enough? In San Vigilio you find the largest Zipline in Europe: the Adrenaline X-Treme Adventures Park. The take-off of the 3,2 km long Zipline begins at an altitude of 1,600 meters. You will descend towards San Vigilio over treetops and meadows facing a 400-meter drop at a maximum speed of 80 km/h. A breathtaking experience that you will remember forever!

Horse riding
Here in San Vigilio local horse breeds are rarer than in other parts of South Tyrol. At Mareo Horse Trekking, you find docile and hardworking Icelandic horses, very popular and appreciated by adults and children alike. Besides riding lessons, you will enjoy riding tours in the splendid surroundings of the Dolomites, across flower-dotted meadows and fragrant larch woodland.
